Grammar Stage

Kindergarten - 5th

Grammar Stage

Kindergarten - 5th

Thrive takes inspiration from the classical model of education, which comprises a four year learning cycle in History, Science and Art. The cycle is repeated every four years, allowing students to move through the program and re-learn the content experienced four years prior, but at a deeper level than learned in the earlier stages.  The Grammar Stage of learning, from Kindergarten through 5th grade is focused on building a solid foundation of knowledge. During this stage, students memorize facts, learn grammar rules and study the fundamental elements of History, Science and Art through our program. The Emphasis is on acquiring a broad base of information and learning how to share that information through writing, speaking, language and art.

This stage helps students absorb knowledge that is preparing them for the next phase of learning.

Our Grammar Stage students are placed into learning groups by age. We offer a K-2nd grade class and a 3rd -5th grade class. These classes rotate to the classrooms of our History, Science and Art teachers. There will also be a time for lunch and free play, with several recess breaks between classes.

Grades 6-8th

Thrive takes inspiration from the classical model of education, which comprises a four year learning cycle in History, Science and Art. The cycle is repeated every four years, allowing students to move through the program and re-learn the content experienced four years prior, but at a deeper level than learned in the earlier stages. The Logic Stage is also known as the Dialect Stage, which occurs during the middle school years. Students at this stage move beyond memorization of facts, and begin to think critically and analytically about the concepts they are learning. In this stage, students will learn how to evaluate information, identify relationships between different ideas, and develop the skills of logical reasoning. The focus is on understanding the cause-and-effect relationships, forming arguments, and applying critical thinking to different subjects. This stage equips students to see connections between the various concepts and prepares them for the final stage of learning.

Students at Thrive in this stage are grouped into a class of 6-8th graders, who are on a rotating schedule for classes in History, Science and Art, with a lunch period and opportunity for recess breaks between classes.

Rhetoric Stage

Rhetoric Stage

Grades 9-12

Thrive takes inspiration from the classical model of education, which comprises a four year learning cycle in History, Science and Art. The cycle is repeated every four years, allowing students to move through the program and re-learn the content experienced four years prior, but at a deeper level than learned in the earlier stages.

During the high school years, students enter the Rhetoric stage, where they refine their ability to express themselve effectively and persuasively. They learn to articulate their thoughts coherently, both in writing and through oral communication. The emphasis is on persuasive writing, public speaking, and honing their presentation skills. Students are encouraged to delve deeper into subjects of interest, engaging in debates, discussions, and in-depth research. This stage prepares students to become effective communicators and independent thinkers, ready for higher education or other endeavors beyond schooling.

The Classical Education model draws inspiration from the education systems of ancient Greece and Rome, where the focus was on cultivating wisdom, critical thinking and eloquence. By following this three-stage approach, students gain a strong foundation of knowledge, the ability to reason effectively and the skills to express themselves persuasively, fostering a well rounded and holistic education.
